Homemade Playdough

I was very surprised at how easy this playdough was to make. To be honest, I was a little scared to make the playdough this morning because yesterday when I read the recipe, I noticed that you had to heat something in a sauce pan. I thought, Oh great. It's going to be complicated! But it wasn't. It was really, very easy. Before I made the playdough,  I dreamed up a color for it to be. I was planning on making multiple colors, but I only had enough cream of tartar to make one batch of playdough. I have been using the cream of tartar to make cookies, so I just need to get more. Yesterday, I made a really pretty teal color paint. I wanted that same color for my playdough today, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it. I even added some glitter to make it fun. I am in love with this playdough. It's safe, it doesn't smell like regular playdough because in regular playdough, there are added chemicals... now I'm not a chemophobe, but I don't like chemicals. I know there are good and bad chemicals, I know chemicals can sometimes be of help and sometimes not... but I know that this playdough is free of weird chemicals and free of that disgusting, playdough smell. I am thinking of making a different recipe of playdough and adding an essential oil scent to it, maybe purple playdough with a lavender scent, different colors with different scents. New blog project! Definitely. 

Very pleased with how my playdough turned out. It turned out the exact color I imagined, and it is super soft! I seriously spent the last two hours (from 5:00 to 7:00) playing with the playdough, just kneading and mushing it in my hands.

~1 cup flour

~1 cup water

~2 tsp cream of tartar

~food coloring

~glitter (optional)

~1 TBSP vegetable oil

~sauce pan

This recipe is super duper easy! You can mix all the ingredients in the sauce pan in what ever order you'd like. It always comes out the same. I just went in the order as listed. Turned out great! So add in the flour, water, cream of tartar, food coloring, glitter and vegetable oil all at once. Stir all the ingredients together before putting it on heat. Once the playdough mixture is combined (make sure to get out any clumps, but that shouldn't be a problem), put it on the stove over medium heat. You need a strong arm for this, because once it's on the heat, you need to keep stirring and stirring, and it will thicken up fast. Keep stirring until it gets thick and kind of hard, take it off the heat, and let it cool but not completely cool. Gather the "immature" playdough, and put it on wax paper or a place mat and knead it with your hands. There ya go! You have yourself some playdough!

So pleased with the playdough and how it turned out. It's pretty to look at, fun to play with. I recently played with playdough with my two, little cousins and honestly, it was pretty fun. You can never outgrow playing with playdough. I think I want to make clay or polymer clay this week and make these cute clay cacti that I found on Pinterest. 

Since there is vegetable oil in the playdough, I'd like to think it helps moisturize my hands. I don't know... like any playdough, it does leave your hands kind of greasy, but at least my hands aren't smelly like playdough. 

I probably won't be able to keep up my "small projects" project tomorrow or Saturday because I will be busy. Possibly Sunday though! Yes, the next two days will be quite busy. We are helping my cousin get ready for her graduation party and tons of people are helping to make it possible. Also, I have an orthodontists appointment tomorrow... I haven't been to the orthodontist in a long time! It will be nice to have my retainer tightened. There are a few changes, just minor tweaks I would like the orthodontist to fix but other than that, I am really pleased with my teeth. Saturday is my cousin's graduation party, and before I go to her party, I am helping my friend run concessions at an event. Gonna be busy the next couple of days, but being busy is good! Very good. So next week, I am going to be in full project mode. Tons of projects happening everyday, very excited. Arts/crafts, I'll throw in some recipes. It'll be a busy blogging week for me.
