Perfect Pillow Curls

You know the new trend, "I woke up like this?" Well, I based this hair tutorial off of that phrase. I am intrigued with waking up with cute curls after my hair has conformed to the braid or bun it is in. I have created this super easy, overnight hair style that anyone with shoulder length hair or longer can do. It looks silly at first, but in the morning, your hair will be such a stunner.

Here is what you should have to achieve perfect pillow curls:

-mister/spray bottle filled with warm water
-6 to 8 hair ties
-OPTIONAL: Lavender or Cedarwood essential oil
(Both Lavender and Cedarwood aid in sleep, and aid in hair health)
To set your hair the pillow curls, pour a drop of the essential oil into your hands, rub them together, and brush your hands through your hair. Take the mister or spray bottle with the warm water and spritz all over your head, and make your hair slightly damp. Take a medium sized piece of hair, and loop it in half, then loop it again, and tie it off with a hair elastic. Do that all over your head. I used six hair ties for six loops all around my head.
So, I slept with the loops in my hair all night. I have to say it was uncomfortable at first, but I got used to it. I think next time if I do this, I will cut up a thin wash cloth, or use linen ribbon to tie off my loops. This morning, after getting ready for the day, I took the hair ties out, and brushed through my hair with my fingers. Perfect pillow curls.
I love the waves, the kinks, and the curls in this hairstyle. It is easy, and I have to say that it is kind of *sexy*. I love wavy hairstyles. They are low maintenance, and it basically takes care of itself throughout the day.

I may not have woken up like this, but I let the time it took to sleep do my hair for me. :)
Do you have any tips or tricks on how to wake up with perfect hair?

  1. I normally twist my hair into a couple buns and in the morning I have soft, beachy waves. I've never tried this with an essential oil, but I met the small amount of helps hold the wave!

    1. There are so many ways to do pillow curls, and all are fantastic! The essential oils are there to nourish hair strands and to help aid in sleep. The water helps with keeping the curls. :) Do you have a post about your pillow curls? I would love to read it!
